HARRISBURG – Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton) today issued the following statement in response to Gov. Tom Wolf’s 2015-16 budget address, in which he is proposing a 16 percent increase in the state budget for a total of $33.8 billion in spending.
“This is a bold increase in spending that plans to raise additional revenue by increasing taxes in various areas, including a 21 percent increase in the Personal Income Tax and a 10 percent increase in sales tax. Anytime I hear a proposal to raise taxes on hard-working Pennsylvanians, I grow concerned. Increased taxes are not something most Pennsylvania families can afford.
“I am pleased to hear that he is proposing to increase funding for education and has a plan to offer some measurable property tax relief; however, I want to examine more thoroughly how these are going to be accomplished and how people in the 183rd District might benefit.
“The governor’s budget proposal is an extensive document and I look forward to exploring more closely all of his proposals and working with my colleagues in the General Assembly in the months ahead to flush out a balanced budget that will help, not hinder, Pennsylvania families and businesses.”
