HARRISBURG – Rep. Bernie O’Neill (R-Bucks) has been appointed chairman of the Pennsylvania House Finance Committee by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) for the 2015-16 legislative session.
“This is a new and expanded responsibility for me and I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work,” O’Neill said. “This is a great opportunity to make real change on issues ranging from state tax policies to the state budget.”
The Finance Committee oversees matters relating to taxation and fiscal policy, investment of the Commonwealth’s money and regulations of the Department of Revenue. In addition, it reviews legislation dealing with the operation of the Pennsylvania Lottery, as well as bills regarding the Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program and the Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly (PACE) Program, both of which are funded by the lottery.
“I am looking forward to working constructively with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to ensure the interests of the taxpayers of this Commonwealth are fully represented in all fiscal and tax policy bills that come before my committee,” O’Neill said.
Due to his extensive background in education, O’Neill will continue to serve as the senior member of the House Education Committee. He has been a member of the House of Representatives since 2002.
