WHAT: Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, will lead the committee on a vote of the following bills:
House Bill 1538 (Rep. Martina White, R-Philadelphia) would allow the Board of Probation and Parole to order that a person convicted of a sex offense listed in the bill or a person designated as a sexually violent predator wait up to three years before re-applying for parole, rather than being permitted to re-apply annually.
Senate Bill 399 (Sen. Wayne Langerholc Jr., R-Bedford/Cambria/Clearfield) would address anonymous submissions of sexual assault evidence and submissions for which jurisdiction is unknown, and to expand the current list of rights for survivors of sexual assault.
Senate Bill 469 (Sen. Dan Laughlin, R-Erie) would apply the tender years exception to those with intellectual disabilities or autism. The tender years exception identifies a list of crimes where, under certain conditions, a child witness may provide testimony without appearing in court before the defendant. (This bill is identical to House Bill 503, authored by Rep. Garth Everett, R-Lycoming/Union, which passed the House 186-11.)
Senate Bill 479 (Sen. Lisa Baker, R-Luzerne/Pike/Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming) would expand the list of crimes under which a child may submit testimony pursuant to the tender years exception. (This bill is identical to House Bill 505, authored by Rep. Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin, which passed the House 193-4.)
