Senate Bill 224 is Not Good for Our Counties, Constituents
Oct. 05, 2023 / Embed
Senate Bill 224 was amended in the House Appropriations Committee after 11 p.m. on Oct. 4, so members did not have adequate time to review the updated legislation, and the public could not vet or scrutinize the bill. We need to pass strong public policy, not rush through legislation that would have made significant changes to election code while our constituents are in bed.
Rep. Cooper comments on SB224.

Lawmakers Cannot Change Election Law Under the Cover of Darkness
Oct. 05, 2023 / Embed
The public and stakeholders must be able to provide input on legislative decisions. When we have an amendment to our election code running at 11:45 p.m., we can't possibly consider it fully or allow constituents to weigh in. Elections are the bedrock of our republic and it's so dangerous to make changes without public input. This undermines faith in our government. Thankfully, the amended Senate Bill 224 failed in the House.
