Rep. Frank Ryan (R-Lebanon), a leading advocate for property tax elimination, hosted a public hearing of the House Majority Policy Committee at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center today to examine the complexities of property tax elimination in Pennsylvania and gain a better understanding of what is needed for such a plan to be successful. The hearing featured testimony from proponents and opponents of property tax elimination in Pennsylvania.

State Gov't Holds Hearing On Pension Systems

The House State Government Committee recently held public hearings on the state of Pennsylvania’s two public pension systems – SERS and PSERS – which currently account for 9.3% of Pennsylvania’s state budget. While Pennsylvania is moving away from costly defined benefit pension plans, many active members and annuitants remain. I asked Dr. Mark Warshawsky of the American Enterprise Institute about the sustainability of defined benefit plans and the risk of bankruptcy.
