Tobash Comments on Education Committee Moving a Package of Workforce Development Bills Forward for Early Consideration

A package of bills aimed at improving career and technical education in Pennsylvania is moving through the House Education Committee toward early legislative action. At a press conference Monday in Harrisburg, a bipartisan group of lawmakers showcased the 8 bills aimed at putting Pennsylvania Families First by increasing job training opportunities, addressing the skills gap and solving the issue of skilled worker shortages that are viewed as holding back the state’s economy. Rep. Mike Tobash (Schuylkill, Dauphin) offered comments on his House Bill 522 which is part of the package of workforce development legislation.

Workforce Development Takes Center Stage as Sonney & Education Committee Members Unveil Career and Technical Education Package

Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie), chairman of the House Education Committee, led a press conference Tuesday in Harrisburg to unveil a bipartisan package of eight bills designed to improve career and technical education (CTE) in Pennsylvania. Joining Sonney for the press conference were members of the House Education Committee. The bills are the result of a report issued by the former Select Subcommittee on Technical Education and Career Readiness. Sonney said workforce development is one of the cornerstones of the Legislature’s plan to improve Pennsylvania’s economy and create better opportunities for those entering and currently in the workforce.

Kaufer Leads Bi-partisan Group of Representatives in Unveiling Community Solar Legislation

As more and more Pennsylvanians turn to solar energy to power their homes, a bi-partisan group of lawmakers introduced legislation this week to allow for community solar projects in the Commonwealth. Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) is the prime sponsor of a bill that would allow Pennsylvania property owners and renters, who are interested in relying on solar power, to have the option to join their neighbors in creating community solar projects and to receive credit on their electricity bill for the power that is produced.

Lawmakers joined with Wolf administration officials Tuesday in Harrisburg to launch a new effort to strengthen Pennsylvania’s workforce, addressing the skills gap and worker shortages that hold back the state’s economy. Majority Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) said the PA House is moving forward with a package of legislation soon to build the state’s workforce and ensure today’s students will have access to the training programs that are needed to be prepared for the family sustaining jobs of the future.
