The 2019-20 Session of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives opened today with the election of Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) as speaker. Two hundred of the 203 members took their oaths of office Tuesday in the House chamber. Republicans continue to hold a working majority of 110 members and this is the fifth consecutive term that Republicans have retained majority control of the House. There are 43 new House members, with 19 Republicans and 24 Democrats being sworn in to serve their first term. Following election to his third term as Speaker, Rep. Turzai shared his vision for the objectives that need to be met in the new legislative session.
