Sonney Comments on Liquor Modernization Legislation

Legislation designed to bring wine sales to grocery stores and improve consumer convenience for liquor sales across the state has been signed into law. Rep. Curt Sonney (R-Erie), co-sponsor of House Bill 1690, said that consumers will benefit from the added convenience this law affords, as well as the local wine industry, which will greatly benefit from a provision allowing direct shipment of wine to customer’s homes. Rep. Rapp Speaks at State Capitol Rally in Favor of Bills to Ban the Practice of Dismemberment Abortions in PA

Members of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation rallied Tuesday in the state capitol in support of legislation that would ban the practice of dismemberment abortions. The event, billed as the ‘Stand Up for Life’ rally, featured comments from state lawmakers who have sponsored bills specifically aimed at eliminating the procedure in Pennsylvania. Rep. Kathy Rapp (R-Warren, Forest & Crawford), prime sponsor of House Bill 1948, addressed the gathering and urged quick consideration by the General Assembly of any legislation that would bring an end to this form of abortion.

Majority Leader Reed Says Privatization Bill Will Bring Improved Wine, Beer Convenience to Pennsylvania Consumers

In a bipartisan 157-31 vote, the House has approved a Senate-amended plan to sell wine in grocery stores, increase opportunities for the sale of beer, and improve consumer convenience for overall liquor sales across Pennsylvania. House Bill 1690, would allow for the sale of wine at grocery stores, select restaurants and hotels which purchase the proper licenses. Six-pack shops will also be able to upgrade their licenses to be able to sell wine as well as beer. House Majority Leader Dave Reed (R-Indiana) said once signed by the governor, the groundbreaking legislation will significantly enhance convenience and accessibility for consumers, who should be able to buy wine at their grocery stores by Thanksgiving.

Speaker Turzai’s Privatization Bill Expected to Bring Improved Wine, Beer Convenience to Pennsylvania Consumers This Year

In a bipartisan vote, the Pennsylvania House approved a Senate-amended plan on Tuesday to bring wine sales to grocery stores and improve consumer convenience for liquor sales across the state. House Bill 1690, sponsored by Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny), will expand the licensed sales of wine by the bottle to grocery stores, restaurants and hotels; and six-pack shops would also be able to upgrade their licenses to sell wine as well as beer. Speaker Turzai said he is confident the governor will sign the groundbreaking legislation that will significantly enhance convenience and accessibility for consumers.

Building the plant is expected to create as many as 6000 construction jobs and an additional 600 full-time permanent jobs to staff the facility near Pittsburgh.
