Struzzi’s Dairy Resolution Unanimously Approved by House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee

Hundreds of Pennsylvania dairy farmers rallied in the state capitol Tuesday to ask for support of federal efforts to recognize the value and health properties of whole milk, and the importance whole milk plays in children’s physical growth. Earlier in the day the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee voted unanimously to support House Resolution 222, sponsored by Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester/Lancaster), that would urge the U.S. Department of Agriculture to enforce the standard of identity for milk and milk products; and House Resolution 402, sponsored by Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana), that would recognize the value of whole milk and support federal legislation authored by U.S. Congressman GT Thompson to ensure whole milk would be available in schools. Rep. Struzzi said he strongly supports the effort to ensure whole milk would once again be available to school children.

Chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Rep. Martin Causer (R-McKean, Potter, Cameron) announced his committee’s unanimous support for House Resolution 222, sponsored by Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester/Lancaster), that would urge the U.S. Department of Agriculture to enforce the standard of identity for milk and milk products; and House Resolution 402, sponsored by Rep. Jim Struzzi (R-Indiana), that would recognize the value of whole milk and support federal legislation to ensure whole milk would again be available in schools.

Aaron Bernstine (R-Beaver/Butler/Lawrence) on Tuesday to unveil the Parity in Interscholastic Athletics Act, legislation to create separate brackets for high school sports playoffs. Rep. Bernstine said the legislation is seen as a solution to fairness and equity issues that have been observed within the structure of the current state scholastic sports playoff system.
