Keefer Introduces Bill to Hold Regulators Accountable

Legislation designed to give the General Assembly a vote on burdensome regulations promulgated by state agencies has been introduced in Harrisburg. House Bill 1237 would require the independent fiscal office to determine the cost of regulations, and refer those regulations with a fiscal impact greater than $1 million to the House and Senate for a vote. Rep. Dawn Keefer (R-Cumberland, York) said her bill would allow taxpayers to be represented before costly statutes are implemented.

House Speaker Turzai Praises House Resolution Calling for Increasing the Number of Women Serving On Corporate Boards in PA

House lawmakers joined representatives of women’s business groups in the state Capitol Wednesday in supporting passage of a House resolution urging all public and private companies as well as nonprofit institutions doing business in Pennsylvania to move toward a goal of having a minimum of 30 percent of leadership positions filled by women. House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) spoke at the press conference and said by taking action on this measure Pennsylvania becomes the fifth state to officially recognize the benefits of increasing gender diversity on the boards of companies and non-profit institutions.

Reese Spirits-To-Go Bill Gets House Approval

Legislation that would allow hotel and restaurant licensees to begin selling distilled spirits in the Commonwealth has passed the Pennsylvania House. House Bill 438 would establish a Spirit Extended Permit, which could be purchased by any valid hotel or restaurant licensee, allowing the sale of up to 3 liters of spirits for off-site consumption. Bill sponsor Rep. Mike Reese (R-Somerset, Westmoreland) said this is just one more step toward getting Pennsylvania out of the alcohol business.
