Rep. Bloom Joined by Legislative Leaders in Calling for Gov. to Reconsider His Veto Threat and Sign a Bill to Retain PA’s Best Teachers

May. 17, 2016  Download

House and Senate leaders joined with rank and file lawmakers Tuesday in Harrisburg to urge the Governor to sign legislation that would allow Pennsylvania school districts to retain the best teachers in the classroom when furloughs are required for economic reasons. House Bill 805, now on the governor’s desk, would end the system of ‘last hired-first fired’ seniority-based layoffs and implement a structure that places emphasis on performance over length-of-service. Governor Wolf has stated that he plans to veto the legislation. Bill sponsor Rep. Stephen Bloom (R-Cumberland) said the legislation is critical to improving accountability and ensuring a quality education for Pennsylvania’s students.
