Stephens Bill Authorizing Protections for Workers Passes House

Legislation that would allow employers to voluntarily enact workplace violence prevention policies, including the installation of barriers and security systems, has been approved by the Pennsylvania House. Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery), prime sponsor of House Bill 2071, said he introduced his legislation in response to actions taken by the Philadelphia City Council to ban bulletproof partitions in certain restaurants.

House Approves Emrick Bill to Improve Public Oversight of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission

Rep. Roae’s Bill to Eliminate the Use of State Owned Vehicles by Lawmakers Approved by the PA House

Legislation that would bar the practice of providing lawmakers with state vehicles while in office was approved by the State House this week in Harrisburg. Prime sponsor of the bill Rep. Brad Roae (R- Crawford & Erie) said the reform is aimed at protecting the Commonwealth from liability in cases where the elected officials operating state provided vehicles may have spotty driving records. Roae’s bill now goes to the state Senate for consideration.

Committee Hearing Examines Phillips-Hill’s Emergency Responder Insurance Bill

The House Labor and Industry Committee held a public hearing on Tuesday to examine legislation designed to ensure that emergency responders have adequate insurance coverage. Rep. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York), prime sponsor of House Bill 1909, said her bill would help rebuild an ailing emergency responder force by reassuring volunteers that they would be covered for any harm that may result from the performance of their duties.
