At a press conference held on Monday at the State Capitol, Rep. Paul Schemel (R-Franklin) unveiled a proposal to provide an alternative to civil lawsuits when addressing child sex abuse cases. Schemel’s proposal would create a “Truth and Restoration Commission” that would receive testimony from victims and the institutions who may have harbored those responsible for the abuse. Victims would be financially compensated by the commission from a pool of funds supported by those institutions.

Rep. Martin Causer (R-McKean, Potter & Cameron) joined EMS personnel from across the state to participate in the Eighth Annual EMS Memorial Service at the state capitol on Monday, Sept. 10. As part of the solemn event, the names of 49 emergency services personnel who have died in the line of duty in Pennsylvania were read and a bell was rung in a tribute to them and their service. Rep. Causer offered brief comments at the ceremony about the importance of the sacrifices made by first responders in our state and nation.
